Top 10 Things to Eat at Disney World

The food at Disney World is ridiculous. They have all the standard Disneyland fare that we’re used to, but with new parks in the mix, the choices are out of control. Epcot has the best variety by far, and probably the best quality. But each park has some surprising underdogs, and some of the best food was actually found at the resort restaurants.

Sorry none of these pictures were actually taken by us. We get really excited about food and routinely forget to take out the camera before digging in.

Without further ado, here are the best things you can possibly eat at Disney World:

10. Shawarma Chicken and Lamb Platter
Epcot
Tangierine Café (Morocco)

This was the perfect meal to break up all the sweets we ate throughout the day. Each part individually was really tasty, and altogether it made a filling, delicious meal.

9. Mickey Caramel Apple
Magic Kingdom

You can get these in a lot of locations, and they’re surprisingly good. We got ours at the end of the day and took it with us out of the park for a late night snack.

8. Fish and Chips
Epcot
Yorkshire County Fish Shop (U.K.)

These were highly reviewed, and they did not disappoint. The fish is super crunchy and delicious. The fries were good too, although a bit less special.

7. Carrot Cake Cookie
Hollywood Studios
Sweet Spells

This cookie is HUGE. Which is awesome because it’s SO GOOD. If you’re a carrot cake fan, you have to try this. It’s like the cake but easier to eat.

6. Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake
Hollywood Studios
50’s Prime Time Cafe

Seriously tasty milkshake. Highly recommended for a hot day.

5. Oooey Gooey Toffee Cake
Magic Kingdom
Liberty Tree Tavern

This is what I’m talking about when I say underdog. It totally came out of left field. It’s the dessert they bring you after your prix fixe meal at the Liberty Tavern so it could have easily been something simple and normal, but instead, it’s this massive, rich mess of cake, caramel, chocolate, and ice cream and it’s legitimately really, really good.

4. School Bread
Epcot
Kringla Bakeri og Kafe (Norway)

This dessert was a really refreshing break in between all the other desserts. It’s not too sweet, and its nice and fluffy. The cardamom in there adds an interesting touch. I can’t say I’ve ever had something like it before. It gets better with each bite.

3. Croque Glace
Epcot
L’Artisan des Glaces (France)

Totally ridiculous. They take brioche bun, cut it in half, add in ice cream and syrup (you pick the flavors), and stick it in a waffle maker-type machine. The ice cream in the middle stays cold while the outside is warm and it’s absolutely perfect. We started the day with a Caramel fleur de sel ice cream and chocolate sauce flavor combo, then went back later to try another one with a raspberry ice cream with caramel sauce. Both amazing.

2. Bread Pudding
Polynesian Resort
‘Ohana

We ate at the breakfast buffet at ‘Ohana which was not that special, but they served this pineapple bread before the meal which was quite good. They take the leftover bread from the day before and make bread pudding with it which was so, so good. You can order this in the bar area so you don’t have to go into the restaurant and it’s only around $6. If you’re in the area, you have to get it. Also if you’re not in the area, you have to go to the area so you can get it.

1. French Toast Bread Pudding with Pecan Praline Sauce
Animal Kingdom Lodge
Boma

I know what you’re thinking–what is this obsession with bread pudding? Well the answer is I don’t know but it tastes really good. This particular bread pudding was part of the breakfast buffet at Boma and it deserves the number one spot on this list because it was obscene. The bread pudding or the praline sauce alone would have been enough to make the list, but together, they are a powerful duo full of magic and wonder. And you can get as much as you want because it’s a buffet which is very dangerous. It pairs really well with the huge personal pitcher of coffee they bring you.

Notable Mentions:

Waffles
You can get these pretty much anywhere. We had them at the ‘Ohana Breakfast Buffet and Boma Breakfast Buffet, as well as part of a Chicken and Waffles meal at Hollywood Studios. It’s hard to explain why waffles would be good, and it’s quite possibly due to the fact that they had Darth Vader printed on them. But they seemed to have a different texture or flavor that was extra special. Not a must try, but a “probably should try if you see them” pick.

Elephant Ears
This was a delicious pastry at the Animal Kingdom. These probably aren’t exclusive to Disney World but we had never had them before.

Chicken Cutlet Curry
The timing of us getting this dish was perfect. We were in the Japan section of Epcot when it started pouring rain and we ran inside the restaurant that served this meal. It was extremely cozy and perfect while we waited out the rain. The meal was pretty good too but the overall experience might be why it’s remembered so fondly.

Napoleon
You can find this at Epcot’s France Pavillion. Honestly, all the baked goods there looked incredible, although you can probably skip the baguette. It was good, but I mean, aren’t all baguettes? Which brings us to the next section…

Skip It

None of these were flat-out bad, but you’ve got a limited amount of time and a limited amount of stomach.

Shortbread Cookie

You can find these in those glass cases in a lot of stores along with the Caramel Apples, Rice Crispy Treats, and other delightful creations. It’s a pretty standard cookie dressed up like Mickey and not that good.

Ribs
The internet raves about the ribs at Flame Tree Barbecue at the Animal Kingdom. It’s kind of like the baguette situation–don’t these taste like most ribs out there, which is to say, pretty tasty but not that special?

Caramel Corn
The caramel corn in the Germany area of Epcot is supposed to be really good. I’d give it a 4.5 out of 7.

Grapefruit Cake
We’re big grapefruit fans so we had high hopes for the grapefruit cake at the Hollywood Derby. It was kind of dry and didn’t even have that much grapefruit flavor. Not sure what all the fuss is about with this one.

Warm Glazed Donut
This donut dessert at the Sci-Fi Drive in Theater was sweet and chewy. It had apples and vanilla ice cream on it. But there’s so many other tasty treats out there that you probably shouldn’t spend your time on it.
